Just like with any other software, what are the features that you feel are missing from Ecamm?

For my, I would like to see the inclusion of mult-format streams. What I mean is that you have your normal landscape layout and the encoders feeding out to your streaming platforms but, you also have a vertical layout sending out to the platforms as well. Would this increase your bandwidth footprint, sure but, it would increase the usability of the software itself without having to relay on plugins.

What are some of your ideas that you would like to see come to Ecamm in the future?

I use Ecamm, but find that the general focus of the app tends to be on a particular “flavor” of livestreaming that isn’t necessarily what I can use… It has been focusing on a lot of Zoom stuff, interview-based streaming, and podcasting. I remember a while ago Ecamm guru Adrian Salisbury was convinced by his son to explore Twitch for the first time, and I thought—”How can you be in this business and never have explored Twitch?”

That shook my faith in the product a bit. Apps like OBS continually come out with features that cater specifically to gaming and art. Ecamm, not so much… I’ve always felt I’ve been using for something it wasn’t intended for.

So if I had to suggest anything about Ecamm, it wouldn’t be in their product as much as it would be in their perspectives—as in widening them. That might bring more features (that OBS has already built in) which could make it much more appealing to a broader user base.

I agree and their marketing is really focused on the podcaster/interview style of content. I love Ecamm and everything I can do within it without having to download a dozen plugins. With OBS I have the same experience but, it’s just a bit more cumbersome to do these small improvements. I’ve gone back and forth in using Ecamm and OBS on many occasions as I’m drawn towards Ecamm for the ease of use.

The Zoom integration is cool but for myself, you and many others, I don’t have a need for it. I do podcasts with it and use Ecamm’s built in interview mode, which is perfect for my use case. I can’t really do that with OBS or I could use a service like Riverside for it. I haven’t attempted to use Twitch’s Guest Star thing, as it’s overly complicated and even the CEO of Twitch ends up spending 5 to 10 minutes during a stream in doing tech support.
