The 'what if' scenario: If social media disappeared tomorrow, how would you reach your audience?

Email lists? Discord communities? Going back to forums? If all major social platforms vanished overnight, what would your backup plan be? How has our reliance on these platforms changed content creation?

In case social media disappeared tomorrow, I will use the mailing list systems and Discord groups to address my audience. It would be better to establish direct channels of communication with the audience. So, my take is that diversification is necessary and we should not limit ourselves to only one platform.

I would definitely stick to using forums and Discord to reach my audience. I have a feeling most people will be flocking towards forums again and will stick to Discord as well since it's easy to access. I think a lot more self hosted websites would come back too and we could reach a new audience on other's websites like back in the day. I think people should prepare for if and when social media will crumble in on itself and disappear.

Another place to think of even though it's been climbing into the social aspects lately is Substack. Between that, Discord, and Forums would lead to a potential renaissance for people. No algorithms to hold their hands in being shown content, people would have to relearn finding the content that they've been used to. There would of course be several individuals who would take advantage but, I believe a majority of users would help the lost.

One of the reasons why I started building forum is to build my own community and build audiences. Therefore, when all social media platforms are gone., I will still have my community users. I also try to depend on SEO.

If social media suddenly disappeared tomorrow, I would start using email newsletters and set up a website to reach my audience directly. I would also rely on friends spreading the word, local events, and working with others to stay in touch and keep connections strong.
